Anti Cancer Drugs

Anti cancer medicines are used to treat neoplastic/malignant cells within the human body.

Radiotherapy or chemotherapy may be effective in eliminating them; however poor early diagnosis, severe adverse effects, high costs and recurrence pose major barriers to effective cancer treatments.

Multidrug therapy regimens may be used to effectively treat cancer, especially when combined with drugs like cisplatin (which destroys dividing cells), gemcitabine (which blocks cancer cell growth) and doxorubicin (which kills fast-growing cancer cells).

Other drugs inhibit cancer cell proliferation and stimulate apoptosis (cell death), such as Herceptin (trastuzumab),Gleevec (imatinib) and Lenalidomide (Revlimid).
